After my last post to remind everyone to update their Windows software, it turns out there is a good reason not to put off updating any longer than necessary.
The first link describes a serious vulnerability that can arise while browsing with Internet Explorer, or opening an infected Word document. According to the author, antivirus software may have a difficult time even detecting any attempt to exploit this vulnerability.

Another issue that has just cropped up with Windows 7 and accessing shares, which can cause Windows 7 to lock up. There is no patch for this vulnerability as it has just been discovered. Fortunately, this is not likely to be a problem for most users, but it is something to be aware of.
